Crossing the border post into Lesotho is where your adventure begins. Please note that a valid passport must be produced at both the South African and Lesotho border posts. No passport = no tour.
Qualified registered guides are there to give you the colourful history of Sani Pass, from the days it was once a donkey track, to the international sightseeing tour it is today. Sani Pass was first driven in 1943 by Godfrey Edmonds, and since 1955 by the Mokhotlong Mountain Transport Company. You will climb 1000m meters in the last eight kilometers, as you make your way up the hairpin bends in sturdy 4x4 tour vehicles. The guides will stop at historical points and view sites to explain the Saga of Sani Pass and its interesting history, also allowing you the opportunity to take photographs of the breathtaking views.
Once you arrive at the top of Sani Pass you will visit an authentic Basotho village where you will be welcomed into the homes of these hardy people to taste their beer and bread. This is working village and NOT a tourist attraction. After this brief interlude you will then travel back to Sani Top Chalet for lunch. Lunch is on an a la carte basis and prices range from R35.00 to R80.00 per person; this is for your account. After lunch you will have time to walk along the very edge of the Drakensberg Escarpment.
We depart Sani Top by 2.30pm to return you to the Underberg between 4.00pm and 4.30pm depending on the road and weather conditions. Please advise where your drop off point is to be.
